Wow. I feel informed in a whole new way on something I’ve thought for long swaths of time about. I work in a creative science field - data science. I can’t claim to understand content algorithms deeply, but the speed of data, or the stream in your analogy, is something I have felt at work and personally in pronounced ways. From the relatively little amount I know about the actual science of things, I admittedly worry about the noise sounding like our own voices piece of your article here, and this departure from the internet being a garden is such a spot-on analogy for what that has felt like over the last 5-10 years. It has troubling implications on the moral foundation of how people are learning about the world and each other, and puts such an emphasis on the value of originality and intrinsic human nature and interaction. I love the practical takeaways you’ve put here - especially about creating for others and being mindful of your creative roots. All’s to say, bravo for addressing this issue in such a clear and poignant way!!
